1 head of cabbage
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
1-2 cans chicken broth
Water to cover
1 pound sausage, bite size pieces
Salt and pepper to taste
1 large can tomatoes
Boil cabbage, onion and bell pepper for about 20 minutes.
Add sausage and tomatoes.
Cook 30-45 minutes more or until sausage is done.
Serve with cornbread.
Note: From Vicky Billy Moore: This is my Grandma Ford’s recipe. This is a very good cold weather meal. Cornbread is a must!!
I just throw everything in the pot at the same time and cook for about 1 hour or so. It doesn’t hurt to cook longer than that. You can also use smoked sausage. Grandma used Italian sausage when she had it. In fact, she called it Italian Cabbage.
