Homemade Sweet Jalapeno Relish

Some like it hot, some like it sweet! This is a wonderful sweet jalapeno relish recipe with a little kick!

Dora says, be sure to wear gloves when handling jalapeno's! Do not use your bare hands, as it will burn!

Homemade Sweet Jalapeno Relish

Ingredients:

  • 1 gallon jalapeno peppers
  • 8 large green tomatoes
  • 3 pounds onions
  • 6 large bell peppers(for color use red sweet peppers)

Pickling Solution:

  • 5 cups white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon mustard seed
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • 5 cups sugar

Directions:

For the relish:

  1. Clean, wash and grind the Jalapenos, green tomatoes, onions and bell peppers.
  2. Marinate by sprinkling 1/2 cup plain salt over ingredients and stir occasionally for 3 hours.
  3. Drain and dispose of accumulated liquids.

For the pickling solution:

  1. Combine all pickling solution ingredients in a large boiler pot.
  2. Add chopped relish mixture and bring to a boil.
  3. Keep hot while canning but DO NOT boil.
  4. Seal in hot sterilized jars with hot lids and rings.

Makes about 12 pints. Dora has also made half of this recipe.
