Hi Y'all,
Georgette had a really nice Valentine's Day! She got roses from Grady and carnations from Ditsy. She made out better than me. :o)

Today's Recipe:
Early American Stew, from Don Elliott, Cedaredge, Colorado
2 # Venison or Elk
1 T. Margarine
1 T. Vegetable Oil
1/2 tsp. Sugar
3 T. Flour
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Thyme
1/4 tsp. Pepper
3/4 cup Burgundy Wine
1 Cube Beef Bouillon
1 Large can Tomatoes
1 Clove Garlic, minced
1 Bay Leaf
4 Medium Potatoes
6-8 Small Onions
1 # Carrots
2 Cups Frozen Peas
Brown meat in margarine and oil. Sprinkle sugar and toss until glazed, Sprinkle flour, salt, thyme and pepper over meat; toss to coat. Gradually add wine, bouillon, tomatoes, garlic and bay leaf. Simmer one hour or until meat is tender. Add potatoes, onions and carrots and simmer until tender. Add Peas and heat through. This can be used with any strong meat. It is great with Mutton.
This recipe is by Don Elliot, and he was kind enough to share it with us. Thank you Don! It took first place in the Boulder Daily Camera Savory Season's Cooking Contest, in about 1974. We cooked off against a goose and pheasant. Due to the nice color, it was even used on the cover.
